Lecture for end users – olive growers and project presentation

Ph.D. Gabriela Vuletin Selak held a lecture titled “Guidelines for the proper selection of olive varieties with a view of achieving regular yields” at the international manifestation of Mediterranean olive growers  Maslina 2018 held in Split from 24 to 25 February 2018.  This is the 15th event organized by the Alliance of olive growers and olive oil producers of the Split-Dalmatia County. During the opening ceremony, Gabriela Vuletin Selak received the “Pavle Bakarić” award for scientific work and publishing in the field of olive growing.

Doc. dr. sc. Gabriela Vuletin Selak održala je predavanje pod nazivom “ Smjernice za pravilan odabir sorti maslina s ciljem ostvarenja redovitih prinosa” na međunarodnoj manifestaciji maslinara Mediterana  Maslina 2018. održanoj u Splitu od 24. do 25. veljače 2018.  Ovo je 15. po redu manifestacija koju organizira Savez maslinara i uljara Splitsko-dalmatinske županije. Tijekom ceremonije otvaranja, dr. sc. Gabrieli Vuletin Selak je uručena povelja „Pavle Bakarić“ za znanstveni rad i izdavaštvo u maslinarstvu.

Visit & project work at collaboration institution – Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies, University of Primorska/Radni posjet suradnoj instituciji na projektu

Gabriela Vuletin Selak, Ph.D, from Institute for Adriatic Crops and Karst Reclamation, Split, has finished a working visit in duration from 11.02. to 17.02. 2018 at Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies, University of Primorska, Izola. In collaboration with Alenka Baruca Arbeiter, Ph. D. and prof. Dunja Bandelj, Ph. D., she was working on the paternity analysis based on microsatellite markers (SSRs) that will enable the assessment of the compatibility relationships in ‘Oblica’ by genotyping and identification of the most likely father (pollen donor) from the mixed cultivar orchard.

Dr. sc. Gabriela Vuletin Selak s Instituta za jadranske kulture i melioraciju krša u Splitu, završila je radni posjet laboratoriju Sveučilišta Primorska u Izoli (Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies). U suradnji s dr. sc. Alenkom Baruca Arbeiter i dr. sc. Dunjom Bandelj, izv. prof. radila je na analizama roditeljstva koji se temelje na mikrosatelitnim markerima (SSRs) koji će omogućiti rasvjetljavanje reproduktivne kompatibilnosti sorte Oblica genotipizacijom i identifikacijom donora peludi iz višesortnog nasada.

  1. Field sampling (collecting the olive fruits representative for the whole canopy of the mother trees during the harvest, October 2017)
  2. Laboratory work (DNA extraction directly from each olive seed/embryo)
  3. DNA extraction from leaf material of different genotypes (pollen donors) in the olive grove

Terenski i laboratorijski rad

  1. Prikupljanje uzoraka iz maslinika (prikupljanje plodova sorte Oblica sa svih strana krošnje odabranih stabala tijekom berbe 2017.)
  2. Laboratorijski rad (izolacija DNA iz svakog pojedinačnog embrija nakon odstranjivanja egzokarpa, mezokarpa, endokarpa (koštice) i endosperma ploda masline)
  3. Izolacija DNA iz listova prikupljenih sa stabala različitih genotipova (sorti donora peludi/oprašivača) koji su prisutni u višesortnom nasadu uz sortu Oblica
